Now the two school districts are among a handful in the U.S. Under the bill, the Hattiesburg and Booneville districts received funding to purchase and lease computer equipment for nearly 2,000 K-12 students and 130 teachers along with new, state-of-the-art dedicated Wi-Fi infrastructure from C Spire for selected schools in both districts. Tate Reeves, a supporter of the legislation, will join students, teachers, district officials, state legislators and C Spire executives at the school Wednesday morning to get a first-hand progress report on the district’s implementation of the innovative education technology initiative. The Hattiesburg Public School District is one of two districts that are part of a $1.2 million pilot project to test the effectiveness of education technology through legislation championed by state Senators Terry Burton and Gray Tollison and state House of Representatives member John Moore. Burger Middle School is moving into the technology fast lane this year as part of a pilot program that provides students and teachers with laptop computers in the classroom and high-speed Internet connections to support digital e-learning.
